Am going to get my sump chopped by Chris Gamlin as soon as funds permit but can anyone tell me how much is cut off as I reckon this will make the
difference between th'engine poking out of bonnet and not. According to my calculations, found through the search button.
GTS high GRP bonnet is 11" at scuttle and 8" at nose. The engine top to bottom is about 25", chassis' about 13" and with
1" engine below chassis rails this equals 25" which is the height of the engine, so that chop would make all the difference to me.

mine is a zx9 in a locost 'book' chassis, sump cut by Chris' uncle, its protrudes one inch below the chassis bottom and the bonnet is not cut at all (but i believe the air filter does touch the bonnet).
Mines same as yours Joel. I just thought that as my builds at a stop I would make an engine cradle and sit it in then I could remove the sump etc but with it being a bit tight and not having a bonnet don't like to commit in case I make an arse of it. Is yours high bodywork like the GTS one Joel?
dont think so, it was built on 2002 and its just rolled ally. Probably book spec with the usual allowances.
You can see how much has been chopped off from these pics

Just for info, John my uncle's fairly busy at the moment so his timing to get them done and returned is a little sporadic unfortunately, as he
can only do them at the weekends if he's not working. If you've got any tight deadlines to meet (SVA etc) then try and give it as much time
as you can, cos it might take a few weeks to get done
cheers
Chris
Yeah I have them pictures Chris but wanted to have a quite accurate measurement with it being tight and me kinda known for exaggerating length *cough, cough* would have to lift my engine up to measure it based on the pictures and I done my back in twice this month through carrying it around.Lesson learned. I'm in no rush yet for the sump as truth be said I'm VERY skint. Not worked since May. Start a job In November get first pay December Anyhow, I'll have my brother lift it tomorrow while I erm measure it so to speak? Cheers.
Chris, I have another project requiring a zx9 chopped sump - could your uncle do me another one please ?.
Regards, Paul
Wow. 4 years late!
Chris doesn't come on here any more and his uncle stopped doing the sumps a while back I'm afraid.
Know any other mates that will do a sump chop for me?
I haven't heard of anyone doing ZX9 chops for ages now. Fireblade seemed to be more catered for and now it seems that 99% of people use the
R1.
The odd billet sump comes on Ebay but they're not cheap. Probably easier to just take a photo off Chris's profile or something and get to a
local welder.
If it's just a case of milling X off and welding a plate on the bottom I could do it for you if you don't mind posting it!
Is that a small baffle in the pic. That would be easy enough as well!
Cheers Si.
