Hi all, having a gsxr1100 ef dropped off tonight which has come in at the right money, bikes a 1984 and has been rebored to 1180 I think with racing
pistons (forget the make). Is it suitable for a car or do I just rebuild the bike.I was offered a vfr1100 engine but was engine only (no ancillaries)
as I checked around on the other locost group nobody seemed to know the engine at all (its an import) so I figured It may cost me a shed load just to
get it running unless anyone here knows better.
Cheers,
Bob
the old GSXR engines are pretty bullet proof and powerful, but they are oil cooled,. Thats the only thing you need to think about in a Locost, is how
you are going to cool it properly, bearing in mind that its far more enclosed in a BEC and also will be running harder at higher revs than it would be
in the bike. There is no reason power wise why it wouldnt be suitable, but am unsure on the cooling so wouldnt wanna say definitely go for it as I
dont know of any BECS that use the engine outside of singel seater racers and hillclimb cars.
Have a word with Chris Gill , he's on the Yahoo BEC list and knows more about GSXRs in BECs
than most, and could probably point you in the right direction. He's just finished putting a water cooled GSXR in a Mallock Clubmans racecar,
which weighs under 350kgs so should be pretty nippy!
