Dynojet kit - zx9r fitting
westindy - 17/6/03 at 08:47 PM

Just read the instructions for my Dynojet kit to fit a 98C1 zx9r - can this be fitted without taking the carbs off the engine? The instructions do seem poor on first sight.

if you can take the float bowls off and see what your doing then i dont think theres any need to take the carbs off ,but taking the carbs off will only take 2 secs -just rock them forwards and backwards a few times and pull them off and when youv finished installing the dynokit use tyre soap or a little fairy liquid and push them back on ,might need 2 people to do this as getting all four pots in at the same time can sometimes be a struggle this may seem ruthless but some times when working in tight spaces this is the only way depending where the heads of the clips are placed

Take the carbs off, only 4 hex bolts to losen and it comes off easily.

I found the instructions slightly confusing till I did it, then they are very straight forward. It was much easier than I thought it would be. Just give it a go, but DO take the carbs off.

just a little tip westindy ,when the instructions tell you to turn the air/fuel mixture screw out by 2 turns it is only a guide line and each throttle pot will need a different amount of turns .i have found that with only 2 turns out the engine runs to weak so start at one end and turn the screw out in half a turn intervals and listen for a slight rise in rpm then the next one and so on .you may have to go along the line again just to fine tweek them.after the first 2 carb pot mixtures have been done you should be trying to listen for higher rpm and a smoother running engine(a poorly adjusted engine can sound very lumpy and by adjusting the mixtures can some times raise the rpm by 1500) but i surggest getting the carbs balanced first as this can also make a big difference
when adjusting the mixtures as many as 4 or more turns out may be needed and all 4 pots wont be the same ,if you need any help just u2u me
