How cools this

I saw this at the Autosport show. Looked like fun but the claims on weight and performance IMO were "optimistic" partcularly if all the road bits needed were to be added.

We also couldnt work out how to step into the car as the side pods are so wide and the seat base very low.

No indication of price on the site ?

The wheels must weigh 300 kg themselves! 17" wheels - why why why???

alanr - 9/2/07 at 10:43 AM

I would really love one --- how much might it cost though

jimgiblett - 9/2/07 at 10:50 AM

The wheels will be fairly light as they are OZ Superleggeras which will be 6-7kg each. But agree 15s or smaller would have been better.

So add A048s you are already up to 90kgs, a Drysumped Busa 90kg that leaves 120kg for the rest of the car. It does say "target weight 300kg" but we could all say that. I bet the OMP seats are 25kg+ each.

Rear calipers are the lightest in the world

400kg maybe 300kg b*****cks.

Even if it weighs in at 400kg it's an impressive development and a great looking car. It would need some work for SVA though

SeaBass - 9/2/07 at 11:04 AM

I wish these companies would include at least one image as the car would look on the road... The balance of cycle wings and lights when added often spoil the lines of these cars.

Cheers

jimgiblett - 9/2/07 at 11:05 AM

Rant on ....

I like it but it really annoys me when these claims are made and then reveal it as a "target". Why not actually give the specs of the actual demo car.

..... Rant Off

chockymonster - 9/2/07 at 11:06 AM

and not road legal with open wheels like that!

02GF74 - 9/2/07 at 11:09 AM

interesting didn;t tink you were allowed on the roads with a car that has wheels past the body, unless wheel arches get round that.

as for getting in, the head support tilts up to reveal a little crane that you use to lower yourself in.

wilkingj - 9/2/07 at 11:36 AM

I see how they get the weight down so low...

There is NO steering rack on the vehicle. Look closely at the front suspension pictures... Its just not there

macnab - 9/2/07 at 11:43 AM

Looks terrible without the proper wings

macnab - 9/2/07 at 11:46 AM

oh oh carbon chassis...it ain't gona be cheap Rescued attachment chassis.jpg

PAUL FISHER - 9/2/07 at 02:05 PM

At a starting price of £49000,its only going to be a dream for 99% of us.Or for around £6500 you could build a MK Enginnering Sprint-R,similar spec,350kgs,175 bhp, admitedly its not got a carbon fibre chassis, but its chassis is well engineered, and it does weigh 350 kgs in track spec, and under 400kgs in road trim.

G.Man - 9/2/07 at 02:31 PM

Has to have 17 inch wheels because of those ludicrous uprights and motorcycle front disks!

6 pot maybe, but they arent great on the bike, so with near 400kgs to stop with driver?

alanr - 9/2/07 at 02:33 PM

That Sprint R also looks TDB - how much would one cost ready built for the road ??

PAUL FISHER - 9/2/07 at 04:48 PM

Best to contact Martin at MK Enginnering for a price for a complete built car,but I know he is flat out producing kits at the moment, but I do know a car can be built to a nice spec for £6500,check out "chris mason" on this forum,he's just started building one,and has a link to his webb site for more pictures and info

iiyama - 9/2/07 at 05:30 PM

Just under £20k for the kit. There was still a lot to add on as the kit wasnt that comprehensive. The Danish bird on the stand at Autosport was very chatty amd very nice! The car however didnt really flick my switch.

Peteff - 9/2/07 at 06:02 PM

They don't exactly oversell it in the video do they?

Completely agree with the very optimistic claims Jimbo, but I don't think A048s on their own weigh ~15kgs a corner do they?

jimgiblett - 11/2/07 at 12:20 AM

Hmm maybe overestimated a bit.

195/50R15 weigh in at 8.6kg but 215/50-17 must be 10kg.

Very close

http://www.toyo.co.uk/page.php?identity=r888

I can't see A048s or similar being much different.

G.Man - 11/2/07 at 07:12 AM

Useful chart...

Think I will change my 205/50's to 165/50's

LOL

15 OZ SL's are 4.8kg, the 17's will be much heavier as well...
