Hi
i am building a book built locost and would like to know if i have to chop the sump on ZX9R Engine .
in a word, yup. Two or three on here have done it so they will point you in the rite direction.
Hi
Is the reason for this that so there is more ground clearance, or if i mount the engine higher will this not have to be done
the reason i ask is that if kawasaki wanted the sump chopped they would have chopped it does it run as good with this modification .
any help much appreiciated .
Hi
Found some bodywork from Leugo which is 2inch higher than normal body work for locost which should take care of the problem of having the sump chopped
.
Thanks Chris
Mistral chopped mine, put the drain on the side, modfied the pickup, supplied a baffle and new gaskets.
Well worth the 150 notes if your worried about it hanging down as it does!
Steve
Its mainly only done for clearance benefits, with regular Locost bodywork you'll struggle to get it under the bonnet and not be virtually
dragging the ground without a sump chop. Whilst its being chopped you can also have a few baffles added which will help keep oil around the pickup in
a BEC installation, so there are other benefits too.
If you need it done then gimme a shout as my uncle has done several ZX9's now, including Jaspers, for £50 including modding the pickup, putting
in baffles and putting the drain plug on the side.
I think Jasper has some pics in his gallery if you want to have a look.
Chris
Stuart Taylor do billet machined sumps for the ZX9. I think they're about £120 (check their web-site for details).
But it sounds like Chris' uncle is your best bet if your counting the pennies!
Steve.
Hi
Cheers for that info i will see when its ready for fitting i need to make the sump smaller i think i will speak to jasper if is uncle knows his stuff
will be well sorted .
Just to clear up the confusion, it wasnt Jasper's uncle, he got his sump done thru John, MY uncle .
