After Elvington in August I STILL haven't got round to fitting a new clutch yet.



I've been really put off by so called 'experts' scratching their heads over which plates are which and which order they go in! Very worrying that a few hours reading of the Haynes manual makes me (a traditionally CEC kinda guy) more in the know than some Yamaha dealers!

Aaaargh!

Thought I'd cracked it last week. Acklams of Harrogate were very helpful and very knowledgeable... 'Oh, it'll be about £100-£120 for the steels and the frictions'

The quote came back to me yesterday... £185 plus VAT!

So!... Can anyone suggest other places I can get hold of a Fazer 1000 clutch at non-rediculous prices before I buy the Barnett kit from PDQ at the end of the week.

Has anyone on here got a Fazer 1000 engine and had experience in replacing the clutch? I'd like to hear their experiences.

Do you need the steels as well as the frictions? Take it apart and check if they are warped or blued.

if u have been running it ages with it slipping then the plates might need changing - but its by no means a dead cert.

its a fazer forum which has a link to clutch adjustment, suggest you do that prior to getting a company to do it. Cos its FREE! and it works.

Although not warped the steel plates are HEAVILY coloured and show signs of being worn (and as for the friction plates... they're virtually back to the base)

I'm familiar with taking out and refitting the clutch (I've done this twice).

My worry concerns buying the right part(s) and not being ripped off when I do.

So if anyone knows (i) where to go and (ii) what price to pay drop me a line.
