ST1100 Pan euro engine
locoboy - 24/9/03 at 08:13 AM

Hi folks,

I have the chance of a pan engine, complete with all electrics and auxilliaries for £300.

has anyone ever used one of these, i know stuart taylor had a chassis at Stafford show with one in, but it looked extremely high in the chassis. Does it need drysumping to bring the height down?

any info on the pros/cons of using this engine would be greatly appreciated

many thanks

colin

Colin

Aside of your concerns re height, a chap here at work has had two or three Pan's and reckons he's done the best part of 1/4 million miles on them.

And he's never been let down.

I reckon that's gotta count for something.

a couple of my biker pals have pans and have never had any hint of trouble from them they go touring in the alps, and off to eastern europe with a trailer on the back and cruise all day long on them. Pretty bullet proof i think.

You cant get a real feel for the height of the engine as they are surrouned by so much plastic when still in the bike.

Have a look at this site

Most of his problems seem to have been in getting a suitable airbox to fit.

I was at ST recently and a chap with a red loco came in. It had a pan euro in it and a bonnet scoop the same as the zx9's from ST use so cant see what peeps are worried about.

pan euro ST locost

zx9 ST locost

(click the text for links to examples of both)

Lenny,

Some measurements and pics would be most appreciated.

Anyone know the destance between the bottom of the lower chassis rail and the top of the top rail on a ST Loco?

Cheers

Colin

Lenny,

Do you hav any advice, concerns about this engine, are there any commn faults or are the above quoted mileages testimony to the robustness of them?

The engine was bought by a chap to replace the one in his Pan, he later decided he couldnt ba arsed and has now got a shiny new 03 reg VVT pan instead!

Does £300 sound suspiciously cheap?

Cheers

Col
