prop-adapter gsxr1100
matt_gsxr - 29/10/07 at 03:33 PM

Hi there,

A quick prop-adapter question.

I am fitting a GSXR1100-WP. I have a prop-adapter (standard part) which fits nicely.
The gearbox output shaft onto which the prop-adapter fits has a thread on the outside for the big washer and big nut.

It also has a small thread on the inside of the shaft. Looking at the microfiche this also has a washer. Neither of these parts are available from Suzuki, and the guy at the Suzuki place told me it was a standard metric bolt.

What does the bolt down the middle do?

Also there is no tabbed washer on this bike.

Any ideas? Is this the same as a Busa.

I have made a tabbed washer to go over the splines, and was planning to use a small bucket of thread-lock. But wondered if anyone had experience of similar designs.

Thanks,

Matt

Sounds to me as though its the bolt that holds the bit for the speed sensor to sense if that makes any sense! Thread is probably M6. Take a closer look at the pic of the washer, I suspect it has raised areas on it.

The Busa has a similar set up and its not something you have to worry about as the prop shaft will cover it anyway.

thanks for that iiyama

It looks like this (parts 45 and 46 are what I am mostly worrying about today)

thanks to www.alpha-sports.com for this image.

I couldn't find the equivalent on the busa diagrams, but there are different years and I didn't look at them all.

I guess you are right that it isn't important, but this is not an area of the build where guessing is my favourite approach to engineering ! I am quite fond of my legs.

Any further confirmation is appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

Hi
I'm Using the Suzuki RF900RR engine.
Most of the Bootem end/gear box is the Same.

But the RF900 does not have this Bolt on at all.
If you look at the Fiches for the GSXR and RF900 you will see that Item 18 (Gear Shaft) has the same pt No. but No bolt shown for the RF.

Thanks mr rf900rush (catchy!)

The general theme of these messages is,
"Don't worry about it"

as someone once said

"if 8 out of 10 people say you are drunk, then sit down"

Advice to live by, I will start worrying about something else!

Thanks,

Matt

Similar set up to the busa, except that bolt, (45), does hold a castellated washer, (four raised areas), that the speed sensor uses. On that diagram I cant see any good reason for bolt 45! It dosent appear to bolt anything on at all, although 44a might have something to do with it. Unfortunatly not all of that part of the diagram is there. Can you make it smaller and post more of it?
