Hello,

Got a fellow builder overhere, and the ZX12R engine just don't want to start up.

Got the resistor (100 ohm) in the grey wire from the ignition switch.

When turning ignition on the fuelpump don't prime itself?????

Checked all off the wires now, but have no idea what it can be ..

The engine is turning over just don't start.

any fault codes? whats going on with the clocks? fi light on or flashing?

Its the wrong wattage with the 100ohm resistor you need at least 5 watts. Go to Maplins and buy a 7.watt for 28p they are covered in cement. I had the same problem as the resistor was letting the current go to the ecu but there was'nt enough power earth out one of the pins I I bet you that you've not got a spark and the injectors don't fire.

cant be true 7watts is way over kill.

12volts 100ohm says the amps wich will run max!! 0.12Amps

P=U*I = 12*0.12 = 1,44watt needed

Well mine didn't start. No fuel pump,No spark and the injectors would not fire. Followed advice on here that any 100 ohm resistor would be fine. and spend 3 weeks checking the wiring and sensors for input and output voltage etc and found nothing. I then got another ECU as I thought that was dead. I still had the problem. I then ignored Locostbuilders and got a bigger 100ohm resistor and it fired straight away.

7 WATTS ARE OVER KILL!! 1,5WATT WOULD BE ENOUGH!

Saying that it still sounds strange because your giveing a ADC voltage to the cpu and you aren't powering an motor or something else ok? Maybe you hadn't an 100ohm resistor but an 100K etc. etc.

Seems strange. Perhaps the low rated resistor is getting that hot trying to pass that much current that it's resistance is changing too much out of spec???

Otherwise the usual problem of using too low a rated resistor is that they get blooming hot and you burn your finger on it!!!

Are you getting any sparking at all? If not the ECU isn't playing ball (does the engine loom have any sidestand switches / tilt switches etc etc). If so, its going to be fuelling. Is the fuel pump ECU driven? You could try by-passing it and then starting the engine!!! If it works at least you know for some reason the ECU driven fuel pump isn't working (again, check for neutral switches, sidestand switches etc).

I think on my ST1100 originally, it had about five switches to stop you from starting it

1) clutch switch
2) neutral switch
3) sidestand switch
4) kill switch
5) tilt / lean switch

and you might even have had to be applying the brake!!!

No the Fi light did not work as the ecu needs to earth and its a switch earth via that resistor

Well same problem again, got a resistor from 5 watts now, but still no priming and starting.......... no FI lights..

wich year is the engine from?
(is the ohm trick still valid)

measure and check all the thinks like
- neutral diodes
- neutral switch
- clutch switch
etc. etc.

engine is a 2001 model.

starter is working, just no fuel and spark....

starter is basic thing...

mine engine can crank while killswitch is in OFF position.

Do you have voltage at the coils?
Voltage at the injectors?

pump doesn't prime is the relais provided with 12volts for the pump?
is it provided with ground or 12volt to operate??

with the wireing diagram it should be easy really...

Got a diagram, and the fuelpump relais is switch with ground.

Relais got 12volt and fuelpump is working i've i bypass the relais, but the ground normaly comes from the ECU.

No voltage at coils and injectors, so the ECU doesn't do it's job.
