Seen a cheap one of these today, anybody any opinions on them or used one?.
yours, Pete.
Pete,
I've a CBR 1000 F, it's heavy by todays standards, and the last bike I rode was a '76 CB 750F1, so I really can't compare it to
newer bikes. It's 125 BHP, (restricted I think) but goes like stink. It seems to have loads in reserve, and I've had twice the legal with
more to come. I now pay closer attention to the speedo!!
Pre- 90 ones had cam chain probs I believe.

A couple of BECs I know of have them in, there's a Striker on the Yahoo BEC list which was the original Sylva BEC demonstrator, then owned by
Simon Neill, a regular on the BEC list before he sold it to a neighbour last year.
The engine seems to be strong and doesnt need dry sumping. The engine itself is heavy when compared to a blade (about 90kgs compared to 60kgs), but
its not a huge handicap and its a bit torquier than a blade. The only other downside is the gearing / rev limit, which means you need a highly geared
diff (3.38 or below) to get a decent top speed out of it.
Overall tho it seems a great budget BEC engine.
Chris
Sounds promising for a cheap alternative. I'll keep it in mind.
thanks, Pete.
