
Right, there's a valve on top of the head on my 05 r1, its got two tubes which go to the head and one other which i assume goes to the base of
the airbox (?) after looking at my wiring diagram it appears to be the AIS, after doing a search it appears this is an EGR system, i know some people
have removed it on the carbed version but is it safe to do so on the injection version?
If its purely for emissions then i'd rather remove it, is it just a matter of making up a couple of blanking plates for the head?

My understanding is it cleans up the emmissions when the engine is cold / warming up. Seeing as SVA tests with the engine hot, the AIS wont have an
effect so should be able to be safely removed.
Have a look at team Hellfire's site - they made up a couple of blanking plates for their ZX12R and i have also seen some on US ebay for the R1.
Should be easy to make some up anyway.

What is the harm in leaving it on?
It only does it's job at start up, so you don't lose any power.
I'd rather leave well alone, especially when taking it off leads to more work making plates.

Is it ok to do it on the 05 injected engine though? I suppose the ecu may throw a fault code up but seeing as i'm not using the bike clocks this doesn't matter...?

You could probably plumb it into your filter backing plate (once you have spaced it out due to the fuel rail and secondary servo motor) but might be less work to simply make some blanking plates. Just keep hold of the AIS bits until you know for sure it works properly post SVA.

I've blanked mine off with CF blanking plates. I'm not using the stock ECU and I don't have SVA to worry about. If I did, I'd have
left it on!

I'm with Nitram on this one, but as I no longer have the stock air box I just put a breather filter on the inlet pipe.

If you remove it blank off with alloy plates or you can buy ready made billet ones for around £20.00 when we take them off the bikes,and blank them off we have noticed a power increase of around 2 bhp when re/run on the dyno,it will not harm your engine and no fault codes will show.
