BEC What battery???
CraigJ - 4/2/08 at 02:56 PM

What battery do you lot use in your BEC's? standard bike one or an uprataed one?

Standard bike one should do just fine.
After all the battery is only used to start the engine.

The alternator will see a greater demand for juice in a car than in a bike but the battery shouldn't... If you're using up the juice in the battery during normal running either you need a bigger alternator or your regulator's fried

I got one the same as the bike, as I've got no wipers heater etc. So if it was OK in the bike, it should be OK for the car!

But even if you have got heaters, wipers etc you should still be using the juice coming out of the alternator......

I've currently got a standard bike one in mine - but I've bought one of these:
Odyssey dry race battery
Slighly heavier (about 5kgs instead of 3.5) but a much better battery - should stand up better to my electric reverse!

Fantastic price too - less than 1/2 list!

I had a car battery from a ford on my Indyblade (came with the car) and I found that the regulator did not like it to much. Then I changed it for a bike battery and since then I had no problems.

Started with the battery from the donner Sierra. Then when funds allowed, bought a bike battery.

I keep it on a trickle charger all the time in the garage. No problems starting it, and when blatting at night the lights are powered by the alternator.

With the bike engine conversions we have done we go for a similar size battery but with slightly higher cranking amps.

Could you let me know how you get on with that battery.
I currently run a car battery because with my electric reverse I thought it would draw too much from a bike one so the car would stall or I'd have to rev the engine.
