Blackbird question
itiejim - 11/2/08 at 06:44 PM

Anyone know whether you can mount carbs on the later injected bird engine - and vice versa?

Obviously ECU permitting

blue2cv - 11/2/08 at 07:12 PM

Spacings different between carb and throttle body centres but still possible

itiejim - 11/2/08 at 07:48 PM

So can I not put my carbs on it? - How can I get round the problem?

blue2cv - 11/2/08 at 08:01 PM

I believe people have just twisted the original rubbers round to adjust spacing but this will leave large steps in the inlet tract which isnt so good, i've made some adapter rings to fit on the head stubs, these then bring the od up to the same size as the throttle bodies and will enable straight hose with a slight curve in it to connect bodies to engine (does any of that make sense, its been a long day)

Yeah, I think so. The key thing is that it can be done without too much trouble.

Is there any real performance (or other) advantage to the injection engine? I know that they quoted 10bhp or so more, but that was taking into account the ram-air (which never works properly on BEC anyway.

There's a tidy looking injection engine on fleabay I was considering...

Not sure which engine is better, palof mine has a carb bird reckons his one is torquier than his mates inj one, bit academic in a way as both bloody quick, my engine is carb but i'm going inj with megasquirt running sparks and fuel

itiejim - 12/2/08 at 08:25 PM

Does the megasquirt use the original coils?

Donīt you have a harder time with the ECU / immobiliser side of things with the injection engines or is it just the later ones? Its called HISS isnīt it? All good if the engine comes with all the bits but if it doesnīt then it adds a load of cash on. Unless you are going to junk the standard ECU?

IDONTBELEIVEIT - 13/2/08 at 07:27 PM

www.trackelectronics.co.uk can sort the HISS prob and splice car and bike loom together for about Ģ400

wayno

Will be using std coils on my car
