New Problem
mistergrumpy - 15/2/08 at 02:45 PM

Just took off my clutch cover to look at the plates and its covered in mayonnaise Whipped the cam cover off as well which has some on the insie of it too. I have seemed to lose some water out of the expansion tank so I'm guessing that its the head gasket eh? Is it likely to be the top gasket, bottom gasket or both? I'm thinking just top. What a pain and I can't order one till Monday to collect on Tuesday. All weekend with the bastard thing taunting me

what engine is it?

Alex.

mistergrumpy - 15/2/08 at 02:52 PM

Oh aye. Its a ZX9 C1 engine

Mr Whippy - 15/2/08 at 02:53 PM

blown head gasket, by the sounds of it where your bell housing is. It will need a good flushing out.

sell the stuff as face cream

Where's the bell housing on a bike engine then?

Ok, fair dos Mr Whippy - the use of the words 'clutch cover' was a bit of a give away though

grub - 15/2/08 at 04:27 PM

and top or bottom gasket gave a little bit away

mistergrumpy - 15/2/08 at 05:07 PM

I've decided that before I weigh into dismantling everything I'm going to give it a flush out and change of oil as I seem to have 2/3 bottles spare (another thing I have two of!) Chances are it may just be from where the engines been sat before I've started it. Was outside wrapped in tarp when I got it.

adithorp - 15/2/08 at 05:58 PM

Just to be optomistic...although mayo in the oil is a sign of head gaskets leaking water into the crankcase, more often than not its just condensation (especially this winter) that isn't evaporating as the engine isn't getting hot enough for long enough. It then gets mixed into the oil. In most cases an oil change and a decent run (not possible yet I assume) will clear it.

Your expantion bottle level dropping isn't good though but you might be lucky!

Yeah. Well the expansion bottle level hasn't dropped so much and I'm just hoping that its down to clearing air locks and stuff. It has been cold here so much so that the fuel froze up the other day and broke my shiny glass filter

Your having a good week aren't you!!!

I need to move mine so I'm going to spent 1/2 hour attaching wires so I can drive it just to cheer myself up. Its only got to go 10yards but why not; I haven't run it for mounths.

mistergrumpy - 15/2/08 at 06:22 PM

Good luck mate. You should start it when that vicar comes back. See what he says then.

roadrunner - 15/2/08 at 07:36 PM

Your not having much luck are you Chris, chin up mate, you'll get there in the end, fingers crossed it's nothing serious.
Brad.

mistergrumpy - 15/2/08 at 08:34 PM

Luck no but I'll not be beaten. I'll bite the nuts and bolts off it if I have to
