I am about to bead-blast my engine casings (glass beads). Any tips? What finish will it need? Some sort of high temparature laquer? Or can I leave them to oxidise naturally?

Also, any tips on blocking the various orifices (intake, exhaust etc.)?

Use a high temperature clear lacquer if bead-blasting. It leaves a finish that is a bit of a dirt magnet.
Have you considered something softer like walnut shell? it will give a smoother more polished finish than bead-blasting.

As above, please don't consider blasting your engine without stripping it.

I'm planning on spot blasting it bit by bit at fairly low pressure, with all pipes and such sealed and still bolted in place to prevent bead ingress, I have stuffed the inlet and exhaust ports with clean rag and sealed them with heavy duty tape and I will also be careful not to blast them. It will be slow but should produce best results. I'll also test carefully on the sump casting first as that will ultimately be thrown away.

I appreciate the warnings though, bead ingress would be disasterous!
