How much should I be paying for this engine
ceebmoj - 19/11/03 at 12:55 PM

Hi I have come across a blade engine for sale from a 94 8,000 miles bike. However it does not have the carb.

All the loom and other odds and sods are there how much do people think it is worth and how much is another carb going to set me back.

i'd say around £450-£500

If you were buying a similar engine from a breaker or kit car supplier, you'd be looking at about £8-900 (possibly + VAT), even for a bare engine, though they do sell cheaper privately usually. Carbs might be expensive if you need to source them through a breaker, but Ive seen a set on Ebay go for about £30 before, might be worth a hunt through previous auctions to see if any were left unsold.

you reckon that much for a 9 year old engine?

ChrisGamlin - 19/11/03 at 03:58 PM

I think they are reasonalby expensive cos the blade is a popular BEC engine anyway, there are lots of kits available for them (Westfield, MK, ST, Fisher etc etc) and lots of parts available off the shelf, and also you don't need a cat for SVA on pre95 engines, so another reason why they hold a premium.

A mate of mine bought an 893 bare engine off Ian Gray in the spring for £900 and it was the only one he could find in decent condition at the time, and breakers were asking over £1k for complete kits with electrics and carbs etc. Prices might have dropped a bit but not by much if any.

I've seen a couple at £825 and £850, RRP and RRY complete with all ancillaries which I thought was not bad. The same place sells carbs for about £100.

yours, Pete.

If the place you are referring to is Cheshire Motorcycle salvage, the RRY does seem pretty good value but its an injected engine that nobody seems to use in a BEC, hence not as popular and cheaper maybe, and the older engine may well still be the same one that was there months ago that never seemed to sell because it didnt have an engine number, so best to check before you buy on that one.

I bought a busa engine for £2500 with downpipes and both rads clocks loom etc but you get what you pay for mate just make sure there is a history with the lump and the right one because 8000 miles is really low for a lump that age.

My 93 Blade with carbs , loom, all ancillaries including 2 set of clocks, bolts etc etc cost £750 incl VAT from breakers near Exeter. Also was running in the bike! He has many other bits if required

I would expect to pay privately £600~700, +£300 Trade. A place in Thorne Doncaster has a few for £1K, but I wouldn't buy from him... through experience.

Pre '95 seem to be more valuable than 96~98 'cos of introduction of the catalytic convertor.

Just check it out very well...

i managed to get the service history book too with the engine no.s in it..all helps to verify its age, mileage and authenticity etc......its a 95 rrs 893 cc..
the handbook also has the wiring diagram in the back which has been handy......
