is it safe to use fully synthetic car oil just to run up my egine and drain out again before adding my silkolene ??
thanks
I wouldn't!!
For one thing if it has a wet clutch it might not like being exposed to car oil (even fully synthetic).
Personally I'd bang in the silkolene and use that... After the drive to SVA and back I'd change the oil and fit a new filter (if you were
feeling tight you could re-use the oil and just change the filter as it will have caught most of the crud)....
An absolute no. Car oil contains additives to reduce friction that will have your clutch slipping in no time at all.
if you do you will need to change your clutch, so I know it seems cheaper, but it will cost you in the medium term.
ok cheers folks

I had no idea there was a difference in the oils that a car and bike use... I will be running the engine for the first time soon so I need the right
stuff.
Can someone recommend the best oil to use in a Hayabusa engine please? Oh and also where is the best place to get it mail order.
thanks
Jason

wish i had before now
Why not use a good quality mineral oil (bike specific) for the first few miles. You can then drain down and use higher quality stuff after that. A
good quality mineral oil will protect the engine just as well (to start with) it just doesn't last as long as synthetics do, hence why people use
them in preference these days.

thats a good idea. I would always drop the oil out after the first 300 odd miles anyway.

since getting mine running last month i used some cheap oil dumped it then used my silkolene and had to leave the engine ticking over whiile the
baffles in the exhaust settled
(they now come in a plastic tube which has to burn away)
and i've dumped it today so just waiting for my new oil and filter
ooh the expence
best to look after it from day 1 tho
