Anyone got a Fireblade rectifier?

Not sure, but I think they are age specific and pretty rare!

Hi guys,

What's a rectifier? Is it what others call a regulator, the bit that has its input conected to the 3 phase alternator and its output to the main 12V line? My Blade in not charging well, so I may have a problem there or the alternator or the battery or who knows

In BEC applications the rectifier is often in an area where it doesn't get good airflow and tends to get much hotter than it does in a bike. For this reason its a good idea to strap some metal to it and/or put it where there is some good airflow to avoid problems. The fireblade units tend to fail regularly unless you do this. Also, some suppliers provide an upgraded rectifier for BECs which much more robust see :- http://www.thekitcarworkshop.co.uk/Parts.html

I whacked an old Pentium III cpu heatsink and fan on of mine, and wired up the fan to the ignition. It hasnt gone pop in 18 months so must be cooling reasonably well

Paul, my one looks much like what the guys at the website are selling, with the big radiator. Thanks for the useful link, BTW.

Chris, the fan idea is just brilliant, the way to go I think.

Oh, and my problem seems to be actually the battery itself, exactly as Jon suspects (he built the car after all!). I've been charging it today using a good power supply and its internal impedance looks pretty high after a good charge, which means I had to charge it at a fairly high voltage (16V actually) to get 2A into it. I can see a new battery coming from MDS soon!
