Can anyone tell me if clockwise on the gearbox is up and anti clockwise is down through the gears.

Looking at the splines, anti-clockwise is up and clockwise is down the box.

Make sure've got it so that a downshift is a push-forward.
If you do it the other way round it'll just annoy you and you'll have to change it

Thanks guys. I was at Ben's today and we were trying to figure it out through various build sites. We can now fabricate a suitable rocker tomorrow for the gear change to make sure its a pull back to change up as mentioned.

I would also go with this setup (not that im into BEC's though!) My VW Sharan has trip tronic and it's push forwards to go up which is the wrong way round for me. Most annoying.
