R1 rectifier connection
progers - 27/5/08 at 07:53 AM

Hi All,

I have a spare '03 R1 engine and have just been preparing it ready for use if the other one goes bang (2 years racing and still going strong..).

I noticed that the connector to the rectifier (the one with three white wires) has been chopped off so I have a couple of questions

1) Anyone got a spare connector (or know where to source one)?
2) Does it matter the order in which the wires are plumbed into the connector?

Thanks

Paul

Paul

Can you post a pic of the plug end of the rectifier? If it's the same as a 5JJ I think I have one.

Wow, that was quick!

I'm pretty sure its the same as the 5JJ, but I'll check the manuals to be sure. It would be great if you have a spare. Does it have wires already connected? Would be easier to connect the wires than play around with the connector itself. Let me know what you want for it

Cheers

Paul

A paddock pass to a RGB race would be fine.

Will check tonight.

It doesn't matter what order the three white wires are connected in. Think of the alternator stator windings as three coils connected in a triangular configuration, with the white wires connected at each point of the triangle.
Its worth checking the winding too, use an ohm mete the resistance between any two whites should be about 5 ohms, and no continuity to ground. I did have one fail on mt R1

Thanks - thought that was the case but thought I would check. I'll check the windings but I think they should be OK as the engine has not done many miles.
