Do you guys use a thermostat with your electric water pump??? I want my engine to get up to temp quickly but dont want to over load the pump.

I think without one you'd risk over cooling the engine

I'm sure you can buy temperature controlled speed controllers for these things but they cost about the same as the pump itself

I'd have to agree with Mr Whippy.

The thermostat ensures that the engine and oil are kept nice and warm - I wouldn't want to change that.

A by-pass pipe will keep water circulating when the thermostat is closed.

thanks for the quick replys guys. I have a stat in at the moment and the bypass from the head T's in to the pump line so there is some circulation when the stat is closed. I will put a amp meter on the pump from cold and see what the current draw is compared to when the stat is open.

You're spot on, if you have no bypass you're supposed to drill a hole in the edge of the thermostat to allow some flow, but the 'Busa engine has a bypass to the centre of the water pump so when replacing the pump the bypass is fed to the inlet side of the electric pump.
