Jason Fletcher - 30/7/08 at 10:41 AM

Hi Guys, I'm still trying to get my reading down for a SVA test and I have a HC reading of -0986. What does the - sign mean? have I actually go a reading of 986 parts per million ?

The tester is a Protech Flux 5000 made by Kasama.

thanks
Jason

Yoy can't have a negative HC reading (unless its some sort of anti-matter generator). If the reading was 900+ you'd have a missfire or an extremly rich mixture (HC is unburnt hydro-carbons). Sound more like a duff reading. Whats the CO?

I recon it was a duff reading... it was reading about 300 in fresh air..

I reset the machine and now I have managed to get it so it will pass sva. The only problem I have now is that the exhaust heat has taken the paint off the side skin. Bugger!

Not sure on this machine but on the MOT ones i have played with they calibrate ( get a base reaeding before the test ).

I suspect that yours has calibrated its self while seeing a lot of HC ( possibly if it was calibrating while you were starting the engine cld ect ect ) as those drop after startup you have got through into the - figures.

yes I think you are right on the button there. I must have calibrated it with some exhaust gas up the spout.
