After my lame attempt to mock up an airbox at the weekend I'm back to looking for an air filter for the ZX12 (in an Indy).
The clearance is "sod all" about 30mm from the top of the trumpets although because of the angle that narrows to probably about a 20mm or so
where the highest edge of the filter would be. I've seen some pretty shallow filters 45mm or so but I guss they would be literally sitting on
the trumpets in which case I may aswell use socks? Any ideas??
i'm gonna use what hellfire has itg...
Yeah I thought about doing that but I think they used either a 25mm or 45mm depth one but I think on mine that woudl mean it's sat straight onto the top of the trumpet which would mean socks would be the same??
this is the problem im having i have no clearance between top of trumpet and bonnet . the thing is u need a fair bit of clearance to get surficient
air flow into throttle bodys or u will be loosing power.
and i dont want to cut a whole in bonnet
i made an airbox for mine binned the black plastic trumpet pieces and fixed straight to the throttle body
just awaiting the finished item as the one i made was a wooden mock up

you have to add some trumpets to the inside of the airbox anyway ive spoken to some people in the know and they've helped no end with the
required lenghts diameters etc ill try dig out the info later in the week (just found out im away now until sat/sun

Cheers mate, how much clearance is there at the top of the trumpets? On the lead one on mine there is just nowt so just the thickness of the filter alone would mean it's sat on the top of the trumpet which I think means I may as well just use socks or am I looking at this all wrong?

Got the air filter and base from merlin motorsports,the base plate was blank and I had to cut the holes out with a hole saw for the trumpets which
were the standard ones that come off the bike (paid 30 quid from a breakers for the trumpets as I didn,t get them when i brought the engine and
running gear)
The filter is an itg jc-40-s-40 the first 40 denotes the width the s denotes that it is a sausage type filter and the final 40 is the internal
height.It should fit under a bulge bonnet without any cutouts.
The blank base plate is ITG-9JC40 this is an aluminium one they also so a steel one which is cheaper.
I have used the same as hellfire,the top of filter the just clears the bonnet bulge so no need to cut a hole.
