Acumen DG8 R1

Hi all,

Well i plan to fit an acumen DG8 to my MK indy at the weekend which is running a 2000 R1 engine.

I'm a little puzzled after reading the instructions. i'm fine with the driving the car in first until it';s programmed 1st, but do you have to drive the car (ie let the clutch out) to programe the other gears. If so, you'd need a bloody long road! Any advice would be great.

Yes - needs to be driven (or maybe put the rear of the car up on axle stands and securely chock the front end) - its in the red section at the top of the instructions. Need to repeat for each gear as per (f)

I am running a Koso dash and my revs are sent from a coil pack with a wire wrapped round it.

I have not fitted my Acumen after my builder said he would and then didnt.

That's a shame. But par for the course. However, I hear it's extremely easy to fit as it should come with a ready made loom for the R1. Nice mini job for winter.

Your builder? Engine builder? Car builder? House builder?

Am I missing something here, is there something difficult about fitting one of these units? Maybe there is, I'd never heard of it til I looked at this thread, so feel free to put me right

My car builder who I contracted to build my MK for me. I bought and suplied him with the Acumen unit but he did not fit it.

I have only got the standard bit of kit and no extra loom etc as it doubled the cost.

I just wanted to know if using the feed that my koso uses for revs will be sufficient to use with this unit?

It is something I am wanting to fit soon as its litting in the garage doing nouwt now.

And to save your fingers and give them some rest, yes I was too pussy to build the car myself. It would have taken even longer than I waited for this one lol

The proper loom might not be the cheapest but will no doubt save a load of hastle, make it really easy to fit yourself, and longer term probably prove more reliable.

If the builder agreed to fit it, take it back and get him to do it. Should be pretty easy to do yourself though.

Sorry, didn't mean to take the p, in fact I think it's marvellous when people pay other people to build their stuff, especially if it's me that getting paid.

I suppose what I really meant was (should have said so too), if you paid him to do something, and he didn't do it, shouldn't you remind him to do it and have him deal with whatever problems were involved?

I paid him to build me a car with a fair few additional items fitted and included. The lack of fitting the gear indicator wasnt a problem, I wasnt paying anymore for him to do so, but it was a bit of a bummer not having it done none the less.

Its a mirracle I even got the car this year the rate things were going, but now I have it, I cant wait till my next drive.

you need to put the rear on axel stands so it can match the rpm with road speed.
it only took me 5mins to program mine, you put it in first let it learn then back to neutral then 2nd then 3rd and so on

Thanks for the advice guys. I also have a koso gauge, happy with the rev connection but not sure on the spped yet as the KOSO cable is sheilded, so not sure i should be slicing into this. Was thinking about wiring it to the orginal speed sensor, any opinions on this?

I have recently fitted a dg8 to my MK Indy ZX9R.
Just a couple of points for anyone wanting to fit 1 as I had a few issues

1) after speaking with acumen using the spark plug as the tacho is bad they told me which cable on the car to use, it was 1 off the crank case if i recall correctly but not sure what the cable does.

The reason for NOT using a spark plug is because it has an unclean pulse and the dg8 works best with a clean 1.

2) The number of magnets used is important, basically the more the better (I too have a koso dash) the max I could use was 6 but as advised from acumen the minimum needed is 4, I only had 1 on at the time so ripped it off and added 6 new one's.

I attached these with araldite (long dry time stuff came in 2 syringes stuck together) and have done a couple of hundred miles including a track day and there still stuck on tight, I left them for 2 days without driving the car or setting up the dg8 to make sure they were on tight.

To set mine up as said before I put the car on axle stands which worked a treat tested it no problems.

on the down side it has now lost its settings for some reason so I will have to investigate.
