Hi all, just installed and got running my 893 fireblade engine, runs real crisp for about 10 mins, the rectifier gets really hot untouchable nearly and the engine loses its crispness and seems to run unevenly untill i put like an office fan onto it and cool it down any suggestions????thanks in advance wayno!!
Where have you got the rectifier mounted and is it on any sort of heatsink??
first just freestanding then mounted onto a 3mm ali plate
Is it sited in a position where it will get any airflow over it?? The Fireblade has a reputation for killing the standard rectifier too doesnt it. Have you got an uprated one?? Worth a search on the subject anyway.
it,s on my westfield and mounts above the passenger footwell near the scuttle panel,so no to airflow, any idea what other rectifiers would be
compatible cheers paul B6

Hopefully the following thread will help. Where you have it certainly wont give any airflow so i'd imagine it will fry pretty quickly. Currently
building a car with 001Ben and we made an aluminium panel to fit down in the lower engine bay similar to Jon Ison (but we put the panel right across
the car) to hopefully give some airflow from underneath. This might be tricky for you depending on how far along you are - extending all the wires
etc??

From my failing old memory banks... ISTR that many people with the BEC inadequate blade regulator problems made use of the Honda Superdream Regulator.
It is basically the same unit with fins... a little like Mr Isons' upgraded one.
Having said - we never had a problem with our standard 893 'blade engined regulator mounted on an aluminium plate between the rad and the engine.
Worked great....

Yep. IIRC its the same reg/rectum frier that Honda use on several bikes. One fix I've seen is to put a PC CPU fan on it, don't know how long
it can cope with the environment, but at a fiver a pop, if it lasts a year, its cheaper than a new unit.
I've also heard of using the super slug unit too.
A nice ally plate behind it should act as a decent heatsink, coupled with a fan should do the job.
