Well my clutch still isn't working. I've been building the car for around 2 years now and I've never got it working.
Problem at the moment is that I can't get the clutch to disengage. I've got the engine running, car on stands and have to whack it into 1st without the clutch. I press the pedal (I've also turned it manually by hand with a pair of mole grips on the arm) gradually and at no point does the prop slow or stop.
I'm racking my brains here now because I've knackered my 4th clutch arm at £20 a piece! They just seem to overpull and the groove in the arm just breaks the cast slightly and oversizes so that it slips off the pull rod.
Going back to basics again. All and any ideas appreciated. Could it be the plates stuck together? If this were so would I still be able to roll it in neutral? I have the plates assembled alternately with the last one slotted against the basket rather than into it if you get what I mean.
If I press the arm against the pull rod whilst the engine is running it feels as though the pull rod is turning with the basket.
I'm getting desperate. I've overthunk it I think and I'm getting lost in my head now.

Yes, you should be able to roll the car when in neutral.

Second yes, I'd go for the clutch plates stuck if it's not been used for a while would be my first thought (As long as you're sure that the clutch release lever / paltes are located OK etc.)

Well I've stripped the clutch a-sodding-gain! the discs were sticking, not a great amount mind. It seems that the clutch case cover is prone to condensation and a small amount of surface rust forms on the disc faces.
Anyhow, I put it back together and butchered an old clutch arm to work and hey presto it worked!
I drove it for the first time Woo hoo. I only got up the drive and the exhaust mount grounded at the peak. I'll kick that later! But it worked so I've drove it up and down the 15 foot drive about 10 times and rolled it back down.
Takes a bit to get used to the revs but woo hoo
