Have now decided that the horrible vibration in the drivetrain is the quaife reverse box (seeing as there is a lot of play in the rear bearing though
no oil leaks out!).
Can anyone advise the cheapest way of getting it rebuilt.
Is this likely to be more expensive than ditching the box and fitting a single drive shaft and perhaps a central bearing?
Cheers Gents
if its just the bearing replace the bearing?normally a knock out/knock in job,any pics?
As he said...if its just a bearing thats gone, get it changed....ASAP before you do any more damage....
If you knock out the bearing there will be a number stamped/moulded onto the race or seal.... Take that number to your local bearing stockist...ask
for a decent branded bearing with that number and jobs a goodun!
also worth checking your reverse box is fited the right way around, the earlier ones had a big bearing for the longer prop(to the axle) and a smaller
one for the short prop to the engine
if you have it the wrong way around it could be why the bearing failed in the first place

Gawd, that would be good news if it is easy to fix, many thanks guys.
Ray, the lever is pulled towards the driver to select reverse (ie towards the back of the car), is that the correct direction? What I'm thinking
is that if it was turned around, it would be push to select reverse??
Will try and post pics once the box is out, but also trying to get another car ready for SVA so it may take a while.
If you can find out what bearing it is i might be able to get a good deal on a replacement through a friend
Nice one, I will try and get it out ASAP
