BEC Owners

Does anyone happen to know what, if anything, is happening with the BEC Owners Club? I joined about 14 months ago and have had no reminder for renewal nor, thinking about it, have I received any newsletters etc for quite some time. If it has folded it would have been nice to have been informed but it would also be a shame. In principle it is a really good idea having a group with a formal membership if only to negotiate discounts with suppliers, insurers, trackday organisers etc.

I see Chris hasnt posted on here for 5 months now!! I've changed address but didnt bother trying to change it with the club - written it off as a waste of time. Demon Tweeks denied all knowledge of any sort of negotiated discount when i was in there and tried to use my membership card.

I get the feeling that the reports of dodgy conversions on here pushed Chris off this site. Is he still trading??

The confusion between the club and the commercial venture was a conflict IMO. It seemed logical when he first started but it grew much more awkward, expecially with the banners in sigs and club stands at shows effectively giving free advertising.

i really do not know what happened to the guy.

the club and the Centre were two different ventures but at times it was more that hard to separate the two. Using similar if not the same signage and having the same chairman - owner.

As far as the centre goes, I know chris (in the end and many months over due) built me a fantastic MK Indy that has covered around 500 miles already with out missing a beat, started on the button everytime and was a dream to drive round track!

the build quality has been fantastic and even two Caterham staff (mechanic and sales manager at Caterham site) commented on what a lovely car it is.

I do know that he has had some terrible work associated to him and has not been on the site for months. I was under the impression the Owners club part was always a bit of a no show due to promissed features of my build etc.

In all, i think everything has been set up with good intentions, but with the club, numerous projects both fo his own and at his BEC centre, a family and now child, its just too much for many people to take on and deliver time and time again on.

The BEC owners website has certainly beein recently upgraded/refreshed. It now has a load of info about the BEC workshop.... So it must still be going.

Which appears to blur the lines between what is the club and the workshop.

A true club should have to answer to the membership in some way. At least provide them with some form of accounts to show where the membership fees are going. This appears to simply be a discount scheme. You pay your membership in order to get the discounts and, as far as we know, the "chairman" takes the money . The newsletter is infrequent to say the least and the club hasn't shown at any shows this year.

My membership has expired and won't be renewed.

Good point Adrian, so is it a club or a business? if it's a club then wheres the members money been spent? Is there a constitution?
