Hi guys just wondering what radiator you have used with an R1 engine? Also if you could tell me any other bits that i will need along the way? Dynajet kit, speedo healer etc.

i got a radiator from mk, i believe its from a polo...
i dont think you need anything else as such, but ive fitted some K&n filters to replace the hideous airbox and a dynajet kit...

An R1 radiator?

I have a polo rad and think it is a bit too big. Even on the track it doesn't get very hot. The only time the fan ever switches on is in traffic jams.

Yes, I'd agree with Colin. Get the smallest Polo rad available. Running a little cool is good for power but sub-optimal for engine wear.

It's hard to answer your other questions without knowing the full detail of your planned installation i.e.:
Engine Year
Clocks/Dials being used
Whether or not you intend getting the car rolling roaded
etc

Currently running the 03 r1 rad with no problems.

I fitted a Micra rad. I left the dynojet kit till after the SVA. Passed the emissions with a pipercross filter and cat. Fitted the dynokit after SVA.

ive got a polo rad like many others

i had thought about getting a r1 rad to save weight and make the cooling pipework a bit easier, thought that with the extra load the engine might get hotter though??

also forgot to add- does the dynajet kit screw up emissions/noise?
im not too bothered, but want to pass sva

I have used the R1 rad on both of my builds (MK Indy and STM Phoenix) and not had problems with overheating. You just need to duct air to the rad in an efficient manner and all is fine.

Both cars were extensively used on track in temps upto 30C.

I too have used the R1 rad on both my builds.

Road and track and ambient temperatures approaching 40 degrees in Italy and South of France.

A fan overide is useful when sat in traffic as the R1 ECU doesnt cut the fan in until 105C.
