I've been trying to think of a nice car donor for a longtime that will offer a nice engine that parts are readily available for, cheap to buy so I can have a full car to break and that would be quite quick in my locost. So far I've been thinking about:-

1) SR20DE engine from Primera GT/Almera GTi and using an S14 200sx Gearbox and bellhousing.

2) CA18DET S13 200sx engine and gearbox for turbo use and easy high power output, only thing is i'm not sure if I'm wanting a turbo?...

3) BMW 3 series engine, probably 316 or 318 so its easier/smaller to fit unless the 6 cylinder 320/325's are easy enough to get in, my only worry being that they are quite tall engines.

Any other ideas? I think I'd prefer a naturally aspirated engine so I can then have throttle bodies/carbs as I think thats what these small cars should be about.

the sr engines are VERY tall and the only one to go for is the sr20det as turbo power rocks

the none turbo nissan lumps are great too, light/easy to tune and bomb proof.

check into a SR16VE, light, 1.6l and a lot of power and tuneability.

Six pot all the way

Would take alot of modification to the standard locost chassis.
