it is rear mounted,so unless you want to turn right when you turn the wheel left......then nope

JonBowden - 19/1/05 at 10:22 PM

Could you flip it upsode down to make it steer correctly ?

MikeR - 19/1/05 at 10:52 PM

then the pinion will be either on the wrong side of the car (ideal for left hand drive) or you'll have to position the steering wheel infront of the rack and turn steer with your arms behind your back!

Now, if you can find a left hand drive fiesta steering rack ....... your sorted!

(i think)

chips,

thats realy bad news,

it was in a good state,

i don't really want to mod the chasis part of the steering rack, are there any alternatives???

i only know one thats a MKII Escort, but that one i will kill when i find! (cant find it)

what are the alternatvies talking about other donor steering racks??

maybe i 'm misunderstanding you? are you saying you can't find an escort mk2 steering rack ? There are always two or three on ebay (just don't bid at the moment coz you'll be bidding against me

Just be thankful you found out about the rack before you installed it. It would be a nightmare if you went to the trouble of installing something like a peugeot 205 rack and only realised your mistake after you had finished and had to rip it all out again :-( dooh!.
Seriously though, try putting an ad in the wanted section, thats how I got mine.

do i then also need other brakes?? etc..??

MikeR - 20/1/05 at 12:42 PM

Syd, its also (i think) what Rover do with the MGF......

mookaloid - 20/1/05 at 01:29 PM

tks - where in the world are you? I have just had a look at your picture archive and can't believe your donor parts still have the original paint on them!

I was going to offer you my spare sierra rack but I see you need LHD why not turn a RHD fiesta rack upside down and use that?

Mark

tks - 20/1/05 at 01:34 PM

YEAH my donor parts where very very fine...

althought it isn't a LSD diff as i hoped for to be (comes from a 4x4 car..2.0) on my ticket states that's a 4x4 2.8 V6 but as you see the brakes say other things..
(the hole backend costed me 80pounds anyway...) the disc and pads rear are in good condition soow..

if i had a RHD Fiesta rack that could work
but here is everything is LHD!!

if turn it upside down the pinion will face forwards..(direction nose cone and it will not help..

you also have to think that a lhd and a rhd are the same rack just the place of the thing (pinion) is moved..

got it?

If only our donor parts were as good as that life would be a whole lot easier!

If you put your location in your profile, then it would have been easier to understand what you needed

cheers Mark

mookaloid - 20/1/05 at 02:08 PM

Ok, if you turn a RHD rear of hub steering rack upside down with the pinion facing the driver, it should make a LHD front of hub steering rack - it depends on whether the pinion is on top of or underneath the rack itself as to which way it steers when you turn the steering wheel.

try drawing a picture

tks - 20/1/05 at 02:11 PM

that's basicly what i said earlier..

BUT I CAN"T BUY A LHD ESCORT RACK neither a RHD fiesta rack..

got the point..??

Just an idea but why not give some of the MG breakers in the UK a call /email a lot of ex US MGB and Midgets are being re-imported into the the UK and converted to RHD --- that stil gives you the track rod thread problem to solve but that depends what uprights you are using.
