Mazda MX5 Donor
Johnmor - 18/11/05 at 05:45 PM

Today a friend of mine had a tangle with some ice and another car today and did some frontal damage to his J reg 1.6 MX5

The worst is all pannel damage and the engine is still running fine (drove home 1/4 mile). Unfortunatly he was third party insured so feels its not worth repairing.

Does anybody know what it might be worth as a donar vehicle, the mechanics are sound and front engine with rear drive is a valuable commodity these days.

He needs to salvage what he can from his pride and joy.

some of the american kits use the mx5

or as they call it the miata

so i guess it is a suitable donor ...

the MX-5 / Miate is a complete donor. the entire drivetrain is useable.

My car has the 1600cc Mk1 engine and 5 speed gearbox, there are photo's in my archive.

I have mated them to the Ford Escort axle and used Cortina uprights.

I paid £600 for the engine/gearbox/ECU/exhaust manifold and a few other bits.

I love that baby Ferrari look - that's probably what I would do
