Hi all,
long time lurker...
I have seen many threads on engine choice etc. and they are intersting discussions, but there are now several people on here with running J15s and
R1ots. It would be great to get some data
Please can anyone who has weighed their car please post up the weight and distribution and please note under what conditions (fuel tank full or empty/
driver/no driver etc.) and also note the engine choice and any other useful details that differ form the norm like location of fuel tank/battery
etc.
Many thanks
mike
In November's Practicle Performance Car, I noticed Dave Walker had JP's Vectis in for mapping, but there was also a mention of weight
distribution, which if I remember correctly, was actually very good (i.e. fairly even across all four wheels). I will try and dig it out tonight and
post it.
I can't comment at the moment as I'm yet to complete my car, but my guess is around the 60 / 40 rear biased weight, Although having the fuel
tank at the front and on the left can help offset the side to side difference. As for weight, I've seen numbers from 500 - 600 banded about for
the J15, and sub 500 for the riot, but of course, this really does depend on the engine and the way a car has been buit. The lightest engine is
probably going to be the sigma, but the duratec is more powerful and is still all alloy.
I've made a real effort with my J15 to keep weight to a minium (13 inch wheels, light weight calipers, light seats, minium panneling, sigma
engine IB5 gearbox, no creature comforts....we shall see!.
Thanks
I dont have access to that article; any chance you might be able to post this information up?
One of the attractions of Westfields and Caterhams is the wealth of data that enables people to accurately gauge the outcome of their efforts. I
figure that as more of the Mid engine Sylvas are built we can develop a similar concensus.
Cheers
My bike engined riot is 410kg without me 480 with and was 49%f 51%r with me and half tank of fuel
Hi
I have seen Jeremys J15 demonstrator in a mag or he told me 515kg with the 1.6 MG engine thats why im hoping for a sub 500 with a Sigma.
The RIOT bike engined was always advertised as 425kg and car engined 475kg i dont believe these figures are made up and Jeremy does believe in the
donor principle ie OE like calipers so with a bit of aftermarket i reckon you could lessen those weights.
I think he told me the Vectis was 550kg ?
Hope this helps

My IVA stats are w/o occupant but with a full tank of fuel (in the front nearside) Axle 1 = 215kg Axle 2 = 335kg Total = 550kg ratio 61/39.
With fat IVA man Axle 1 260kg Axle 2 380kg IVA man = 90kg I weigh 76kg on that basis 61/39 again.
I have a Ford Sigma 1.7

I think 550kgs with a full tank is pretty good.....Don't suppose you get a side to side measurement...this is the one I've always 'worried' about with the J15, especially my 'even fatter than IVA' 105kgs!...

Many thanks for digging that up.

I only have a (one) set of bathroom scales and I would have to get in and out between measurements and fill the tank first. Not a high priority right
now but I am also interested in the measurement. A week or two perhaps!
I hope the IVA man does not read this forum!

I weighed my Mojo on a set of corner weight scales shortly after SVA, data is in the spreadsheet on my webpage here:
http://www.mymojo.co.uk/mods/mods_corner_weights.htm
Direct link to spreadsheet:
http://www.mymojo.co.uk/documents/mojo%20corner%20weights.xls
This includes data for unladen with full tank, 1up (driver only) and 2up. Distribution remains at 39/61 for all 3.
