Bike engined Mini's and SVA
GregSL75 - 19/10/08 at 10:39 PM

Just wondering what the story is with rear bike engined Minis and SVA. I'm assuming they come under 'radically altered monocoque' and require an SVA, but seemingly there's plenty about that haven't.

What are the penalties for not putting one through an SVA? I'd imagine it invalidates your insurance and possibly you could face the crusher?

EDIT: Eats shoots and leaves.......

don't know if he built it, but he certainly owns one, and is selling one

I'm building (rather slowwwwwwly) a RWD front ending ZX12 Mini, and I'm planning on an SVA when I finish it.
I think it will reassure any future buyers if I come to sell it, and it'll keep insurance companies and any other authorites happy.
I know others have not bothered and have fully road legal cars. Even owners of vehicles from the reputable Z-cars have not bothered, some have, some have'nt. Its a bit of a grey area methinks, until one ends up upside down in a hedge. You know what insurance companies are like. if there's any technicality to get out of a settlement....they'll find it.
Just covering my Rse more than anything.
There's plenty of debate on here if you want more info:

What sort of issues are you likely to have with a converted mini at SVA? I'm wondering whether there will be much extra work to get one through...

Could you retain the Reg or would it definately be a Q-Plater?
