Tool for adjusting Protech shocks

Any suggestions on the best tool to set preload on protech shocks.

I can't seem to find a C spanner anywhere locally to do it.

I've tried a Boaconstrictor but it isn't strong enough.

What has everyone else done?

you're welcome to borrow my spax C spanners - sounds like you're not to far away.

It turned out I didn;t need to use them since I could turn the body by hand after releasing the tension on the spring.

If you are going to buy a C spanner make sur it is for the right diameter springs.

I asked the guys from Protech this same question. They came up with a cheap solution: a tool that's meant to be used to unscrew oil filters. There are several styles available, also ones with a strap. These also minimise damage/scratches on the anodised alloy.

I've just ordered a C spanner from Rally Designs so I hope it fits - thanks for the offer of the loan though!

I also phoned Protech and they suggested the Boaconstrictor, which is one of the things used for oil filters.

However, even with all the weight off the suspension it wasn't strong enough to get much preload on the spring.
It moved the collar so far, but then started slipping and tearing.

I hope to be applying for my SVA in a couple of weeks so need to get it sorted.

I could only find one on the website. I ordered over the phone and the guy didn't sday they did different ones.

The on one the website is 2 14", which seemed about right.

hate to potentially put a "damper" on this, but of the 2 sizes I found it was the smaller size 1.9" after buying a 2.25" C spanner

Which I still have if anyone wants if for the cost of the postage

I also got the "Boaconstrictor" answer when i asked them.
But I had the same problem as you with it.
I ended up making my own C-spanner.

The Rally designs one is cheap so if it doesn't fit I won't have lost too much.

The spring platform measures about 2.5" outside diameter, but I don't know how the size of a C spanner is measured.

I was hoping to save the time of making my own by buying one, but looks as though making one might have been quicker!

FYI - Got the spanner from Rally designs today and --- it didn't fit!!

However after 5 mins with blowtorch and hammer it fits perfectly!
