and just to add a bit of bling the wheel I'm using is a 8"x18" OZ mag. wheel from a 99 focus WRC (the 5 spoke tarmac kind)

I want a 20m retractable airline hose for my garage. There appears to be much tat on eBay and I want soemthing of reasonable home workshop quality,
any ideas what to get?

When you say nice, you're talking from a quality perspective correct?
I bought mine from Aldi/Lidl (whoever were offering them at the time) and it's perfect. Heavy duty enough to be dragged around the garage and
pulls out in stages with a ratchet to hold it in place.
Bolted to the wall under the bench out the way hooked upto the compressor as well.
Beware that many of the cheap ones have quite a narrow bore that can significantly reduce airflow when using tools with a high demand (e.g. impact
gun).

Mike's cautionary advice is the sort of thing I worried about.
There is a plethora of 'cr@p' out there and I'm after a bottom of the range workshop grade one, but can't fathom which to get!
I use the Sealey SA85 its 20m with 10mm bore hose. It ain't cheap but its metal bodied and the locking and retracting mechanism won't screw up in no time like the cheaper ones I have had in the past. Suppose it really depends how much use it's likely to get. Mine gets dragged in and out all day.
It won't get too much use, but I hate junk tools with a passion.
The sealy one looks great, but blows my budget a little. Anyone get anything in between as recommendation please?
We're running 2 Aldi ones in our workshop. They're in constant use and have been no trouble.
They cost less than the hose would have on it's own.

Nice but expensive for what it is.
Very good quality, dont buy the Adli/Lidl ones they have cheap nasty airline connections on them and they are smaller bore. If you have all aldi kit
and compressor its fine, but not if you have decent compressor and tools.
I've had quite a few machine mart hoses over time, they perish and split quite easily. The last one I bought (can't remember what make) did
the same.
I wouldn't spend money on retractable ones if they're not going to last long
Or maybe I'm doing something wrong with them?

+1 for the machine mart hoses.
I have two, mounted on the ceiling either side of the garage and they're perfectly placed for what I need.
It's a real convenience rather than mincing around with the coiled hoses which became a pain very quickly.

I've got a normal hose wrapped around an old wheel which will shortly be mounted to the wall on an old caravan hub - total cost £0 + the hose

Yeah that's the only downside with some of the stuff I've picked up in the German supermarkets. Odd airline fittings. No big deal
though!
For the amount of use I give them vs the more expensive stuff they are fine. And as pointed out sometimes they look exactly the same as more
expensive brands, just different packaging / colour etc.
Air hacksaw, finger file, compact air drill have all got me out of the poop on numerous occasions.
Some barsteward has bought that bloody eBay item before my daughter could buy it for my Birthday!!!
