Planning winter mods, mindful of events for next year. Going on several road trips in 2011 including France again (at least twice) and a 4 day tour of
the UK Up the East / down the West ending at Stoneleigh on the May bank holiday.
All camping trips so I am looking at mounting the Eurobox onto the cage. Does anyone have any experience of doing this in terms of how it affects the
handling characteristics of the car?

i thought a normal 7 had bad aero dynamics.... thats taking it to a whole new level

Thatīll shift the CofG quite a bit.
I wasnīt quite convinced of installing one on a 120i Dynamic, but seeing this, I think itīs a go....
Could you not mount something on the back that you could load the stuff onto. A bit like the old mini's boot (hinges at the bottom)?

Drive Carefully there and back.
Take it off whilst you are there.

It'll lift the CoG when loaded so the handling will go down hill and I'd expect the front end to go light at speed. It'll keep the rain
off when stationary, so there is a positive!
Can't you make a rack for the rear?
I use my old cycle touring packing method; Put out everything you want to take, get rid of everything you don't need,... get rid of 50% of whats
left!

The main problem (the freestyle buggy boys tried doing it) is not so much the handling as you wouldn't normally be driving like a loon when doing
long distance, but the way it funnels the air right into your face.
It is very very tiring to drive any distance sat in a wind tunnel. omega0684's suggestion of trying it is good - take it on a blat.
Go in the BMW X5 instead, plenty of room there lol
Best person to ask is MadTeg. He's been going to Shows like that for a year or more.

We have just started using these at work for our instruments:

They are completely watertight and if i remember rightly will still float with 20kg inside them !
Im going to measure between my rollcage stays and my spare wheel carrier and will possibly order a couple for when car is built.
Perfect for storing stuff in, strapping to car & completely watertight - Super cheap too !
They do 2 sizes this one & a slightly smaller one for about Ģ4 less.
Might be worth a look.
I would have (and still will) test driven it if it was actually bolted to the cage. Its a first fit to see if it actually goes on top and stays within
the confines of the car itself.
When I do make up the braketry it willl be angled slightly down to create downforce as appose to lift (I hope).
I had considerd the Keeping dry properties somewhat and it will be easily detachable so I can store it in the tent.
I have done some "expeditions" in the Trooper (sat behind). Its not an X5 its a LWB old BIGHORN that goes anywhere and I do mean anywhere
).
I love the Road Trip ethos so truth be known I like the whackyness of the roofbox just a little bit 
I'll let you know how I get on. after I've fitted it properly.

Im sure locoR1 has had his fitted like that fr a while now, if i had a 7 then i would probably do the same thing, go for it, you only live once !
There's nowt better than touring in a 7!!

Have to agree that it's not all that aesthetically pleasing but it's probably pretty practical. This is a mates car recently:
Didn't seem to have much effect on performance, perhaps because our big, ugly heads were in front of most of it anyway

you can buy water proof tool boxes from wickes that are good.
if you add a frame to the car from under the fuel tank area sticking out the back of the car it would then be out of the wind and keep the cog low.
the bars could be made quick release if you put your mind to it. had this on the dax.
or put the box mounted on the rear roll over bar so its lower - but its in the wind then and blocks your rear view.
aldi sometimes sell those yellow water proof bags which are cheap to buy - strap those on too
You needed to lower the COG - the answer is obvious, but will cause vision problems - see my fiendish answer below....
