I've just bought a 50 year old Fiat 500 which is in generally good shape. There are a few small cracks in the paint work here and there. There's no bubbling and no signs of rust and I want to keep it that way but don't fancy rubbing down and respraying. Here's a an example:

What is a good way of treating the cracks to stop rust starting?

You could try a touch up pen, just scrape out and refill the crack, then flatten with WD paper & buff. Loads of tutorials on youtube and similar to paint chips. 50 years old, some would argue just to keep it as it is as it adds character... my old car is far from perfect but so what its ancient.

If that's all you have to sort on a Fiat that old your doing amazingly well

Rub the are directly on the crack & just a small ampunt, few mm, either side with 1000 grit W & D paper b4 you start, get several brushfulls of paint into the crack over a period of days if necessary to allow to fully dry in between, then once fully cured use 1200 & then 1500 wet &dry, used wet with soapy water, blend the area in, then use a decent cutting paste & finally polish, should be virtually invisible. The essential thing is to make it fully sealed to the elements
