electrical fault on F27 lights & Fuel gauge
gregf27 - 8/9/13 at 11:36 PM

can anyone help me out please?

Whilst checking the F27 out in the garage today , I noticed that when you turn the cars lights on, the fuel gauge ( ETB one) the needle goes all the way over to full!!! & when I turn the lights off , the needle goes back again!! - this is only recently developed.

What could be causing it to do this?, any helpful suggestions greatly received!!

thanks

Greg

Either the fuel gauge is earthing through the lights or getting power from the lights. Disconnect the tank sender to start with and see if still does it.

Cheers for the reply Pete,

I have disconnected the feed for the fuel sender unit (and cleaned up the earth lead whilst I was at it)-

Its still doing it though!!

What do I need to do now?

regards

Greg

done a little bit more , put some fresh fuel in it and started it up, when you put the lights on , whilst the engine is running -

1) The needle on the rev counter drops to zero
2) The needle on the oil pressure gauge drops to zero
3) The needle on the fuel gauge goes all the way past full!!!

any ideas anyone please?

Could well be an earthing problem. Is the light earth connected to instrument earth?
