Trigger wheel help needed
norfolkluego - 30/12/09 at 12:20 PM

OK guys, I've got the crank pulley off (a 1.8 Zetec by the way) with your tip about jamming the flywheel, but....
the trigger wheel I've got is a solid one with just a central hole so it will have to fit flush against the forward face of the pulley, problem is the pulley bolt is only 30mm long and the 'recess' in the pulley that it sat in is 25mm deep so I'd lose nearly all of the thred depth. Do I
a. Just fit a longer bolt (are they M12, look like it)
or
b. Fit the trigger wheel behind th pulley so the existing bolt is OK

You will probably need to get a spacer turned up to fit between trigger wheel and pulley and then use a longer bolt.

If you want to fit it behind the pulley (is there room?) you will have to bore out the hole from the pulley hub to pass through and find some method of locking it to the pulley.

Scrap idea B, I've just trial fitted it and it would foul the belt on the water pump pulley (I think)

Is that an M12 bolt does anyone know?

I'd use a spacer and a longer bolt. Just make sure you have some way of indexing the trigger wheel against the pulley otherwise if it turns at all you've have infinitely variable timing (IVT) which is generally a bad thing

why not fit long piece of threaded rod instead of crank bolt, and use three nuts...if you know what i mean??

i did it like this. sorry its a pinto but it may give you an idea

I'd peg it to the pulley then get centre machined out so that you can use the existing pulley bolt.

My old Zetec pulley

I might be missing something here but can`t you use the original set up on the flywheel & crank sensor?

norfolkluego - 30/12/09 at 01:03 PM

That's a cracking bit of work, don't have the gear to do that though

CVH flywheel, no timing marks

Slightly off this topic, I bought a 1.8cvh and it came with a front pulley that incorporates a trigger wheel. Dont know what the engine is out of. Would this pulley fit a zetec crank ?

norfolkluego - 30/12/09 at 06:14 PM

Thanks for your help with this, I've gone with the 'mount wheel to pulley' option as I couldn't fin a bolt that would fit, it's a wierd thing, looks like an M12 but it has an M10 thread.

Just need to move the timing mark onto the trigger wheel, after I've found the timing mark that is, all I can find is a mark from a blue felt tip, wouldn't have thought that was Ford's standard way of doing it, anyone got a piccy of a Zetec pulley showing the mark(s)

i think as mentioned the cvh pully with the trigger wheel on it will fit the zetec.
