Vauxhall Hi Torq (what is it?)
Duncan Mould - 28/3/11 at 09:46 PM

Seen a corsa for sale for the wife, its only a 1.4 but when I checked the spec its listed as a "Hi Torq".
Whats a Hi torq ? its not running 200bhp + is it.
Is there anyone out there who can satisfy my technical mind ?
for curiosity sake.

Are you sure its not the name of the dealership selling it?

High torque 1.4's were single point injection, central throttle body with a single injector, running low pressure 0.8bar fuel pressure. we used to call them flying flatspots, c14nz engine code.

just about as basic as an FI engine can be. i think they made a little more low down power compared to the multi point injected c14se but lost out at the top end by 15- 20bhp.

So essentially a marketing exercise - how to make your bottom of the range engine sound more attractive by naming it after the single technical advantage that it has over the more expensive one.

I am grateful for those nuggets of information. will be looking at the vehicle tonight.

The 1.4 SPis are dire.... (60hp IIRC) keep an eye out for on with the MPi 1.4s, 83hp and no dearer to run, tax or insure.
