Well I have cashed the tax in so winter mods have started!
Nose Cone removed
Exhaust, weber carbs and all aux parts removed
All came out quite easy, just hope the new zetec goes in the same way!
Going to remove the gearbox Tom morning as I have a low mileage one to go in its place
OOOOOoooooo Keep this going as I am thinking of doing the same but want to have a play on the ice before I start the winter jobs
RD
Gearbox out :-)
New engine ready to be fitted
Usual oil filter issues, going to try a Renault 5 filter and move the engine over slightly first, also the lefthand engine
Mound chassis plate needs moving forward about 4"
I tried the nose cone on an have about 2mm clearence from the cambelt cover so might need to shave a little off that for good measure
Your cracking on lewis!! looking good!
I'm getting there lots of little bits that are going to take time but that's part of the fun! As long as I have a working car at the end lol
hahahahah thats my worry!!! too many parts going in all at once for my liking ,get that rocker cover orange!!!
Painting is on the list but later,I'll only scratch it lol, just sorting the alternator out atm,had to replace the pulley but the I/d are different on both so having to weld a plate on the back of the pulley I want to use,all will become clear and will work perfectly
Bit of a update
Oil filter now fitted (super slim) and engine moved over to the left slightly to allow fitment, now have about 6mm clearence
Pulley bracket made
Alternator bracket and adjuster arm made and fitted
Alt belt sourced from halfords
I recieved lots of silicone hoses ect through the post yesterday so cooling system next !

Looking look!
Coolant plumbing & breather pipe work now complete
Megajolt wiring next!
6mm of clearance on your oil filter WONT be enough and will hit, you need to find a better solution

looks very nice. interesting that you've removed the middle cam belt cover to route the alt belt, i thought about doing the same, but got scared
by the stories of stones getting in there. Did you think about a second idler below the alternator (think there's a handy hole there) and running
with ?
Regards,
Ed.
Lewis, looks like your cracking on really well. Mine was started last weekend CVH out, thank god !! lots of shards of metal in the sump!!! so fairly terminal. ZETEC is now mounted, the right sid mount had to be modded. Dont seem to have the same filter clearance issues as you though theres plenty of room looks like i might even be able to get the alternator in without and changes to the current pulley set up. Engine out now for painting and megajolt to be installed. Should also get my manifold form DANST engineering by monday!!! but looking good from your end mate!!!
Glad to see you have started mate its. It been to bad so far but not finished yet!l,I am putting off fitting the megajolt lots of wires!! I'm currently making the manifold atm,I was going to make a steel one to get me going but decided to make it from aluminium straight off instead, so am kind of held up until I can get it welded up :-(,I have ordered a exhaust manifold from gbs (kitspares) as people say they are good value, also ordered a pipercross filter & will make my own backplate for it to fit the zx6 carbs.
Exhaust manifold turned up today,so trial fit to make sure it clears chassis rails ect & silencer fitted with the parts I have in the garage,I
quite like the rear silencer mounted more fwd but not sure.
Been a while since I posted any progress.
Not overly happy about the hole I'm left with for the exhaust where the webers used to be,but will have to wait for a new bonnet.
Megajolt wiring nearly done so hoping to start the engine next week.
Your pics are not working.....
pics work for me, Great progress lewis!! look forward to hearing the first grumbles of it starting. what are you doing about the thermostat/temp switch for the fan?? looks great though!!
Not sure yet cal I take it you have not sorted yours either? Let me know if you come up with a solution.
ive got a few plans, at the minute until jetting is sorted shes on a switch so on all the time basically. GBS do a water rail kit that incorporates a thermostat which would work, or Burton do an electric fan sensor which is pretty much a thermostat.
Just re read your post re thermo switch,I have a thermo switch in my polo rad from when the pinto was in but need to find out what temp it came on at,I'm also going to run a manual switch so I can control it from the dash,on the top of the zetec thermostat housing there is a thermo switch so you could use that?,I have just started reading through old posts on here but might help you??
