re-use blacktop head studs
Fizzer - 21/3/12 at 10:48 AM

Thinking of getting my ports polished (ooer). Should I replace my head studs? (not minted, so would rather not...)
It's a focus blacktop.
TIA
Andy

When ive done heads before, the general rule is stretch bolts should be replaced. however on my clio 172 there was note in the renault guide that if theyve not stretched past a certain length they can be reused, but I didnt have an accurate way of measuring (10ths or 100ths of mm or so) so I just replaced them, in my experience they arent expensive, no more a £1 or 2 each.

What does the polishing process consist of and is it expensive?

I'm thinking of sending it this chap:

Just seen standard bolt prices for heads on ebay, they are mega cheap so will fit new ones. Interestingly, some people are selling bolts and some people are selling studs for the same engine... wierd. Anyone know what the standard fitment actually is? Bolts or studs?

Don't use bolts etc from e-bay, they are sometimes not up to OEM standards and can cause problems with headgaskets and warped heads down the line. I bought mine form a local factor some years ago but never again, they were OK but genuine Ford ones were cheaper.

Standard fitment is bolt.

Standard fitment is bolts - at least that's what was on my Focus 1.6 Zetec SE (Black cam cover)

I always get confused by each online stores' description. Why not say blacktop or silvertop?!

When i comes to Zetec they normally say pre or post 97

All Zetec's share the same head bolts
