Duratec transmission help
SteveSEIW2000S - 13/8/12 at 12:46 PM

Anyone help with a problem that I seem to have ??

The set up I have is

- 2.0 Duratec Engine
- Raceline Flywheel
- AP Clutch
- Ford Mondeo V6 Concentric Slave
- Raceline Bellhousing
- MCT75 Gearbox

I have only recently started the engine and when running stationary appeared fine, clutch engage / disengaged fine, car moved backwards and forwards in the garage fine.

At the weekend I brough the car out and drove up and down the driveway a few times and now appears to have developed what I can describe as clutch bearing chatter.
With the clutch pedal applied the noise is gone but when I lift off the chatter re-appears, I dont want to just assume the slave bearing is knackered as this was new and a genuine Ford part.
Could this be anything else like a gearbox and is there a way of differentiating between the slave bearing and anything else ?

I know I am likely to have to take the engine/box out again but would like to know anything else to check before just replacing the wrong part.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Steve

Its common to get some noise from the input shaft running under no load in neutral which disappears when de clutched and in gear , are you sure that it has the correct amount and type of oil in the box also?.

Steve.
Have a look at this: http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/index.php?/topic/96457-cluth/

Think it may answer your question.

Did you fit a spigot bearing in the end of the crank?

I didn't: http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=166304

I guess it is feasible to have some noise but this just doesn't sound right.

Oil filled to correct level and correct grade of ATF.

Yes, spigot bearing fitted to end of crank so can't be that.

Must be either the thrust bearing or something inside the gearbox that goes away when clutch pedal pushed down

Also the clutch is hydraulic so I can't set it to preload

Heard of a similar problem and that was cured by just adding a light spring to the clutch release arm to just preload the CRB, not a heavy spring but just enough to pull the bearing into contact. HTH Ray
