The gearbox I'm using with my RS4 engine is an Audi 01X... it comes from front wheel drive TDI models.

Obviously I'm going to be stressing it a fair bit more than it's intended use (surprisingly not by a great deal according to Audi's official figures), so was wondering if there are any companies out there who 'beef up' standard boxes?

If so, then it may be a time to try and change the ratio's to suit better (although I don't want to go spending crazy!).

Just a thought - given the fact that the Ultima is presumably considerably lighter than the donor vehicle my inclination would be to see how it goes before spending out wongas beefing it up.
As for ratios it depends on whether it's for road, track or hillclimbs - again suck it & see.

Audi RS4: 430 Nm
Audi A4 2.0 TDI: 350 Nm
Audi A4 3.0 TDI: 551 Nm

I think it will cope.

as above - it would be the torque rather than bhp that would kill it, and it would surely be designed to last 150,000 miles wouldnt it?? I'd go for it as is and never expect to have a problem.
