R1 Overheating - Help please
My R1 (2003 engine Indy) has been a dream to own and drive scince passing its SVA in July.
Opened up the bonnet for a general check today to see I have lost lots of water from the header tank. checked the level and it was very low.
So filled it up, went for a drive and got home, wanted to see if it over heated and if the fan came on, picked up temp quickly and then the coolant
tank pissed out water.
Could this be thermostat or something worse?
will get pics up etc.
I have next week off work so a good time to fix it.
any advise would be tops too

What was the temp when it came out? R1 fan doesn't cut in till 105'c. Could just be a faulty presure cap. Yoy did leave space in the
bottle didn't you?

its was about 95 when the water came out.
Is the pressure cap the cap that is on the header tank.
i did notice the top hose start to steam moments before it blew its load lol
what a good routine to do to check whats at fault here?

I would imagine the pressure cap.

Sounds like the caps not holding presure. Get it checked or just stick a new one on and see what happens.

guys - do you mean the actual screw on cap that you undo to fill up the coolant in the header tank?
secondly, the top hose of the coolant tank started to steam just before the tank leaked, so thats must mean its under mega pressure no?

topped up the water againa nd started it up. the cap for the coolant tank had steam coming out of it after about 80 degrees, pretty sure the cap is
failing.
any other suggestions?

Either you need a new cap or you've got serious problems (ie. headgasket). Cheap enough to change the cap and find out.
You could of course take the head off and check that first to save wasting money on a cap you might not need!
