r1 clutch judder
Hi all newbie here, the clutch judder's on take up,can pull off keeping rev's low as poss,judder's to a minimum but still
shake's the car,and dont sound good, it is an r1 2002 late carb engine in a stryker, direct drive the engine is solid mounted.clutch
does'nt slip ,no problem in engaging gear's does'nt slip under full load, Am i looking at a new clutch basket ,plates and upgraded
pressure plate, any help advice would be appreciated.

em...i had trouble with the clutch disengaging properly, i took the clutch apart and had to realign the arm that the cable attaches to. theres two
markings that have to be in line or the clutch doesnt work.

may sound daft, but make sure every single component in your drive train is tight and has no play... I recently had a bad judder and it turned out to
be the diff working loose and possibly the hub nuts not being torqued up...
you can always pull out the clutch plates/steels and see how worn they are, uprated springs are usually required for slip, not judder..

does the R1 have anti judder washers in the clutch like my bike?

thank's for the responce guy's,, just bought the car picking it up the weekend, bought it with view to put a new clutch in, so will give
it a good going over,checking the drive line as well, previous owner said it was like it when he bought it and just got used to it, but obviously i
want to sort it, oh buy the way it has a quaiff diff which has been stripped down and rebuilt with new bearings in the last few hundred miles, dont
know if that would make a difference.

The symptoms sound like the clutch steels being warped. Previous overheating from slippage and banzai starts will be the likely cause.
The symptoms will be worse if the anti judder mechanism has been removed.
Solution - Remove the steels and check for run out (eg. laying them on a piece of glass and see if they wobble.)
If they are out of true replace with new ones (ideally replace the frictions too). If replacing the anti judder plates be very careful with the
reinstall of the piano wire retainer.
While you have the plates out check the condition of the basket as the steels can notch the basket fingers impeding the release. If it is notchy
remove the basket (you will need an air ratchet or a fabricated tool to undo the retaining nut) and carefully file the high points rinse thoroughly
and replace.

as jim says thats the problem with R1 clutches if you need any parts i have loads of bits in stock
