Someone explain the difference i get for the £££
Can you experts tell me what iam getting with these price differences from Yorkshire Engines.
What does an extra £100 or £200 get me?
These prices are at the VERY top of my budget so need to get this right
2001 R1 KIT £1050
2002 929 kit £1150
2003 954 KIT £1250
And if i can stretch to it...
2005 ZX10 KIT £1450

Well... before getting into the technical wotnots - the obvious answer is a years less wear and tear on each motor.

And being a road and moto x biker for several years I can assure you technology moves on
As they get newer the rev higher and make more power
My 918 carb blade revs to about 10850 and kicks out 130ish bhp
I owned a 929 blade & 3 R1's. The latest R1's rev to 13750 and make make some 40-50 more ponies!!
Ive never had one break down on me despite some ham fisted riding but newer im sure would mean better quality & less wear

2001 R1 is the last of the carbed R1 engines. 150 BHP from an engine and gearbox that weighs 60kg. They are meant to have a smoother power delivery
and just a bit more umph than the earler R1 but not quite as much as the later EFI versions. Carbs can be a bit tricky to adjust for emissions. A
fairly tough little engine and very popular so cradles and headers are easy to find.
The ZX10 is quite a bit more powerfull, I believe, and obviously a couple of years newer.

2001 R1 150bhp on carbs
929 and 954 Blades are FI and have Honda reliability built in about 150 bhp also
zx10r FI more topend power, Req a 3.38 or 3.14 sierra dif or 3.21 freelander to get the best compromise of gearing
As said newer buys you less wear in theory and more refinement.
Either of the Blade motors will be great, Never have been an R1 fan but many people rate them highly,
I have an 06 zx10r in mine and I'm vvv happy with it.
If its smiles v cash then the R1 at a grand takes some beating

Yorkshire engine prices might be at the top of your buget,but you should be able to buy a 954/929 or a carbed 2001 engine from a good bike breaker for
no more than £800,and a 2005 zx10r for no more than £1000.
I paid only £1250 5 years ago,back in 2004 for my 929 injected fireblade engine from a reputable bike breaker,get on the phone give a few breakers a
call,you will be suprised what deals can be had

Yes, I used breakers. You pay a lot for just getting a clean engine!

So long as its reliable engine, low ish milage, not stolen and wont blown up within 5 miles of use, then i'll be happy.
Think i'll be going carb route as its cheaper and easier to install

Also, have a look at buying direct from a salvage broker. That way you get the whole bike, and don't have to pay a breaker's markup.
Getting the whole bike gives you a chance to see the rest of the bike and judge its overall pre-crash condition.
ASM in Thame (and, I'm sure, many other firms) sell bikes straight from the insurance companies

I think the main thing to think of here is after sales service. Buy an engine from Yorkshire and youll get all you need. If the engine dosent work,
Malc will swap it out if needs be or make sure you get the bits to make it work, (although I believe most of his engines are known to be runners
before he sends them out).
Buy one from a breakers and it may appear to be cheaper but if it dosent work then youll have to spend time and money getting it to run. Youll also be
posting on the web to ask many questions as to what may be wrong, where does this go? etc etc. Buy from Malc and you can do this with a phone call and
problem's solved there and then.
Personally Id go with Yorkshire Engines. Hang on a minute, I did! So I know the above to be true. In fact Malc went out of his way to help me with a
few things that he was under no obligation to. I also know that hes done this with others.
Pays your money, makes your choice.......
If its broke, fix it. If it aint broke, take it apart and find out how it works!

I had the same choice when I bought my ZX10. It seemed that Malc's engine's were more expensive.
However based on the huge amount of positive feedback about Malc on here and by Col and Mark at Mac#1 I decided it was worth the (small) extra £.
