ZX9R - HELP!!

Hi guys,

Eventually got my zx9r up and running however soon after I discovered an oil leak. After some investigation I have found out that the oil is coming out of 4 holes in the cylinder head. There is one hole below each of the four exhaust ports where the exhaust manifold attaches - has anyone any idea why these holes are in the head, if there should be something in each of the holes and if not surely oil shouldn't be coming out of them!?!

I've searched the haynes manual but to no avail. Any help much appreciated as getting so close to finishing everything and now this happens!

Thanks,
Paul

Think these may be water drains that port out from the spark plug holes if rain, water or condensation builds up. If so the fact that oil is coming out would suggest the cam cover seal is leaking around the plug holes. The seals are quite fiddly to fit and often get nipped when the cover is replaced. Fit a new seal and you should be fine so it should not be a big issue

Excellent, thanks for that Andy! I know that the cover was replaced before I got the engine so hopefully that explains it! I'll go on the hunt for a new seal now :-)

Thanks again.

Just to concur with Andy. I'ver got my cylinder handy here and they are drain holes into the spark plug recess.

Thanks for that! I just went out and pulled a plug lead off and it is coated in oil so that is definitely the source of my oil leak! I just need to find somewhere to get the seals now.

Took the cam cover off and the fact there are no seals present on any of the spark plug ports might be my problem I think

Does anyone know where I can order the seals from and can I buy them seperately instead of buying a full gasket set!?

Thanks for the help guys, I was slightly concerned at the start!!
