Maybe a daft question for those in the know, but what are the disadvantages or advantages (if any) are there to having a Q plate ?

Advantage - No emmisions test at MOT. Just visual smoke
Disadvantage - Some people think it lowers the value of the car and it also makes a locost look like a kit car.
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

most people seem to think a Q reg car has a dodgy history eg insurance write off , stolen recovered, BUT those in the know, know different

Q on a tintop means hassle with insurance companies. All it really means is the age of the car can't be determined by the DVLA.
On a kit it's not a problem at all.

I agree a Q plate is no problem on a kitcar probably an advantage come mot time
Personally i wanted an age related plate so i could put a private plate on it at a later date! 8 years and it still hasn't got one
